Bike Maintenance Courses

On This Page: | Basic Course | Advanced Course | Custom Course | Forthcoming Course Dates

Even if you rely on Walkers Cycling, a relative or friend to fix your bicycle there are a few basic skills every cyclist should have, such as how to remove and refit a wheel and tyre; how to mend a puncture; how to adjust the gears so they index accurately (move the chain onto the next cog with a single click of the shifter) and how to adjust the brakes so the pads don't rub or squeal.

The easiest way to get hands-on mechanical experience is to come to one of our evening classes where you will be shown how it's done by a skilled and qualified mechanic. You'll then get to practice your new skills on your own bike using the right tools for the job.

The DIY bike mechanic can look forward to lower running costs and will be better prepared to carry out running repairs when out cycling.

Choose between a single evening Basic Maintenance Course or the Advanced Course held over three evenings. Beginners are welcome to attend either course but if you already have a good basic knowledge of bike mechanics you might get more out of the advanced course which aims to make you 'self-sufficient' in bicycle care and maintenance.

Read on for further details of our courses.
