Cyclo-cross Bikes

Cyclo-cross - competitive cross-country cycling - has been around for a long time but is currently undergoing a real revival in Scotland. Originally devised by road cyclists to help them stay fit in the winter off-season, cyclo-cross is now enjoyed by all types of rider with most events catering for everyone from novices to elite competitors.

Cyclo-cross races are generally held on short circuits which differ from MTB courses; most 'cross circuits cover a variety of surfaces and contain sections where the competitor has to dismount and carry the bike for a short distance. To this end, specialist cyclo-cross bikes have evolved that strike the ideal balance between weight and strength.

Visit the SCX (Scottish Cyclocross) web site for more information about 'cross bikes and races. Walkers Cycling Club is promoting the Scottish Cyclo-cross Championship at Irvine in December 2010 - details also on the SCX site.
